Yiannis Iliakis
The drummer Iliakis Yiannis was born in Athens in 1982. He started learning drums at the age of 14 while playing with rock groups. In 2001 he began music lessons (drums) at the Municipal Conservatory Amaroussion (Athens) and from 2004 to 2007 he studied at the Modern Music School Αθήνας, with Nikos Sidirokastritis as his teacher. Also, he studied painting with Chronis Botsoglou at the School of Fine Arts.
He is a founding member of the free jazz group Outward Bound.
Among others he has collaborated with Ronan Guilfoyle, George Haslam, JD Walter, Miriam den Boer Salmón, Dine Doneff and Vangelis Katsoulis. In addition, he has worked together with the gorups: Strovili, Avlos, Luup Orchestra, Autosxediastiko Trio To, Sushi Knives, Statik, The music of Crete Revisited and many others. He participates actively in the improsivation scene of Athens and he is also a member of the artist collective Free The Soprano Player, created in Heraklion, Crete. Since 1011 he is the drummer of the progressive group Ciccada.
