Gkagkavouzis Vasilis comes from Thessaloniki. He took bass and double bass lessons from Yiannis Papatriantafyllou. He continued his studies in Holland where in 2019 he graduated from the Jazz Department of the Prince Claus Conservatoire, in Groninger. Currently he completes master studies at the Jazz Department of the Royal Conservatoire in Hague. He attended classes and seminars from renowned in the world jazz scene musicians: Steve Nelson, Don Braden, Joe Magnareli, Todd Coolman, Conrad Herwig, Joe Locke, Linda Oh, Johannes Weidenmuller, Adam Nussbaum, as well as with celebrated Dutch musicians as Eric Ineke, Jarmo Hoogendijk, John Ruoco, Kurt Weis και Juraj Stanik.

In Holland he has performed and experimented in many areas with a variety of groups (Dave Stryker, Alexis Cole and others), choirs, theatrical plays, festivals, Big Bands (PCC Big Band, Koncon Big Band and others). At the same time he has appeared on stage with some of the most prominent musicians of the Greek jazz scene as George Kontrafouris, Dimitris Kalantzis and others.

In 2021 he released digitally his duo with the guitarist Manos Kourtis, which is his debut album.
