Vagelis Vrachnos started playing the electric bass wih a rock band in Thessaloniki and a few years later he started recieving lessons by M. Sideridis at the Modern Conservatory of Thessaloniki. At the age of 23 he turned his interest playing the double bass and continued his studies at Codarts Αcademy in Rotterdam.

Returning to Thessaloniki, along with the pianist Leandros Pasias and the drummer George Klountzos-Chrysidis they formed the Yako Trio.

The trio's debut album, entitled "Ode to Υannis", was released in 2018.
He is also a founding member of the band Mordana Project and a member of the Sokratis Votskos Quartet.
