George Filippidis was born in Athens. A self-taught bassist, began playing professionally with various rock groups in 1970.

In 1972 he turned his interest into jazz too and started to perform with Greek and internationally known artists.

He was a founing member of the group Sphinx and collaborated with many well-know artists, such as Bela Lakatos, Tony Lakatos, Dionysis Savvopoulos and more.

He died in 2002.
