Mode Plagal were formed in 1990 by Thodoris Rellos (saxophone, vocals), Kleon Antoniou (guitar, vocals) and Takis Kanellos (drums). In 1995 they were joined Antonis Maratos (bass) and Florian Mikuta (keyboards). The band blends jazz with funk and traditional Greek and Balkan music in an original manner.

Their homonymous debut album was released in 1995. In 2002, they collaborated with Turkish group Bosphorus and recorded the album "Beyond the Bosphorus".

They have collaborated with many artists, such as Dionisis Savvopoulos, Vasilis Skoulas and Eleni Tsaligopoulou and they have toured extensively all over Greece.
