Dimitris Tsakas
Dimitris Tsakas was born in Patra in 1970. He completed his studies in classical guitar graduating with an "exceptional performance" award. In 1991 he started playing alto saxophone and he studied under scholarship at Berklee College of Music. His teachers were Andy Mc Gee, Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone and Steve Wilson.
He has taken part in a lot of record productions and live performances by many Greek and foreign artists, as well as some of the best musicians in the Greek jazz scene. In 2004, he formed the Out to lunch Trio along with Kostas Konstantinou and Kostas Kouvidis with which he has taken part in concerts and festivals in Greece and abroad.
In 2007, he performed as a soloist in the triple Vangelis Papathanasiou album "Blade Runner Trilogy 25th Anniversary". In May 2010, he released his debut album "Growing Up" which was recorded in New York and received excellent reviews by top musicians such as David Liebman.
In 2013, he presented, for the first time in Greece, the legendary piece "Charlie Parker with strings" performing as a soloist in collaboration with the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra. In 2015 he performed as a soloist with the City of Athens Big Band along with the sensational drummer Ralph Peterson Jr. Also the same year, he presented Duke Pearson’s masterpiece "Cristo Redentor" in collaboration with the ERT National Symphonic Orchestra and Choir at their New Year’s Day concert.
He also performs with Eleftheria Arvanitaki’s band all over Europe. Since 2019 he is the cultural director for the "jazz at the museum” series at the Goulandris Foundation.
