Nikos Skomopoulos was born in Athens in 1967. He started playing music at the age of 12, starting classical guitar lessons at the National Conservatory. In 1982 he started playing the drums, playing with various rock bands. In 1986 he started classical percussion lessons at the Athens Conservatory and from 1987 he also studied drums at the Athens Percussion Laboratory. From 1988 he started playing jazz, performing with groups and taking classes with John Floros and Ralph Peterson Jr.

From 1990 he started his professional career in music, collaborating with many well-known artists. Since 1995 he has been teaching drums at the Filippos Nakas Conservatory and is an active member of the jazz scene playing in Greece with many distinguished musicians of the genre, such as George Kontrafouris, Takis Paterelis, John Pierce, Danny Hayes, etc. In 2016 he became a permanent member of the Mikis Theodorakis Orchestra and participated in tours in Greece and around the world.
