Anna Makantasi

vocalssaxophone

Anna Makantasi has studied music, pedagogy, and social sciences, following a path that weaves voice with thought, expression with teaching. She has been wandering through music for years - experimenting with instruments, teaching, singing, and always learning. Her journey began at the Contemporary Conservatory of Thessaloniki, where she studied jazz vocals, and continued in Athens, delving deeper into improvisation alongside teachers who opened up new sonic routes. At the same time, she pursued musicology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, seeking — through theory and research — the thread that connects music to the world.

Since 2012, she has collaborated with musicians in various groups and combinations, focusing on jazz, performing on stages and in the streets, in Athens, the provinces, and on the islands. She teaches vocal improvisation, believing that the human voice is a musical instrument capable of storytelling, experimentation, and deep connection. She wrote and curated Flying Brushes, a musical fairytale brought to life with friends and collaborators — a playful blend of jazz and imagination, where sound and color speak together.
