In which year in the history of Greek jazz do we find the most new album releases? In 2019, according to Jazz Library, with 64 new albums by Greek and Cypriot musicians who live in Greece and Cyprus or abroad.
Recently, huge changes in the promotion of music through digital applications along with the decline of traditional recording labels, are leading more and more artists to self -produce their own works, in other words to cover the production with their own expenses. What is more, things have become even harder because of the health crisis. Live performances and concerts have changed dramatically, turning into "online lives". To adapt to these new circumstances, nowadays many artists release their work through digital distribution only.
Still, the blooming of new musical creation in Greek Jazz continued in 2020, whereas until June of 2021 there are already 35 new album releases (!) most of them being exceptional. That proves, or at least helps us estimate that despite so many difficulties this year may be the most prolific of all. And, the jazz music expression in our country, either in analog, digital or online form, is ever growing.
