Spyros Rontogiannis started being involved with music very early studying piano and then he turned his interest to saxophone. He studied in Italy, France and Greece and received a classic music saxophone diploma in 2005 by Filippos Nakas Conservatory.

Since 2006 he continued his studies with Sylvios Syrros at Athenaeum Conservatory, and lately with Gilad Atzmon.

He is a founding member of the Open Maze quintet, with which he presented his own compositions for the first time. He has collaborated with many groups of the Greek jazz scene, he is a leading sax player of the Pireaus Municipality Philarmonic and he has also collaborated with the Athens State Orchestra and the Nirikos string orchestra.
