Noraoto

Noraoto Nanashi was born in Athens in 1993. In 2016 he studied jazz and classical double bass and developed a keen interest in free improvisation. Since 2019, he’s been a student of the Ionian University’s Department of Music Studies, specialising in electroacoustic composition. He received the second award in the music competition of the Union of Greek Composers and Zagori Fiction Days 2021 Music investment of the first episode of a silent film series. His pieces have been presented at “Xenakis 22” Centenary International Symposium (May 2022, Athens and Nafplion), “Akousmata” (May-June 2022, Corfu), Corfu International Festival (December 2022, Corfu), “Martini Elettrico” (April 2023, Bologna), “Akousmata” (May 2024, Corfu). He has also organised and taken part in a variety of free improvisation live performances, with plenty of Greek musicians, exploring different sound colour combinations both in the acoustic and electronic realm.

Notable performances include: “Asabe” (electroacoustic ensemble of Ionian University), Martini Elettrico (April 2023, Bologna), audiovisual arts festival «Stereoma» of MOMus (September 2023,Thessaloniki), Electroacoustic Music Days 2023 – 41st CIME/ICEM (November 2023, Rethymno) and individually/as part of different ensembles, Pascal Niggenkemper/Stephanos Chytiris 'I took a walk in the woods and came out taller than the trees' (October 2023, Athens), “Fractal” with Stelios Tsiloglou-Ignatiadis, Dimitra Kousteridou and MIZI (February 2024, Athens), as part of the improvisation orchestra under maestro Francesco Giomi in Summer Academy of Sonic Arts (July 2024, Corfu), as part of “Athens3000”, Jazzhohburg Kärnten (July 2024, Austria) and Jazz@Megaron (November 2024, Athens).

He also performs pieces written by composition students, such as “Swarm” by Theodoros Grigorakakis (performed March 2022, Corfu) and “The Giggling Bed” by Maro Konstantinopoulou (performed March 2024, Corfu).
