Stamatis Mazaris was born in Athens and hails from the island of Ikaria. He started playing the guitar as a self-taught at the age of fifteen. Then he studied at the Swiss Jazz School in Berne.

His first personal album "Oneira" was released in 1993.

He has composed music for TV, documentaries and the theatre.

He lives in Ikaria.
