Elena Kakaliagou
Elena Margarita Kakaliagou, born 1979, is a Greek/Austrian, french-horn musician, currently based in Berlin.
She holds a MA (2010) from the Sibelius Academy/Finland with professor Erja Joukamo-Ampuja and two BA (2007&2008) from Graz Univercity of Art /Austria with professor Hector McDonald. In her first steps, she was guided by Vagelis Skouras and Dimitris Fronimos in the municipal concervatory of Volos, Greece. During her studies she has received scholarships from Klangforum, Impuls Academy, and Ensemble Modern with teachers like Mike Svoboda and Bill Formann.
She performs internationally solo and with a large number of musicians and performers, and collaborates with various fields of art, dance, film, and painting, naming a few like Riikka Innanen, Phill Niblock, James Andean, Katharina Klement, CC Hennix, Catherine Lamb, Jules Reidy, Simon Martin, Matias Guerra, Thomas Noll, Kasper T.Toeplitz, Éliane Radigue, Els Vandeweyer, Natalia Manta, Floros Floridis, Didem Pekün, Iris Baglanea and many more.
Next to her main projects, Nabelóse and Zinc&Copper, she can be heard in the Stefan Schultze Large Ensemble, zeitkratzer, PARA and albums of various musicians.
She has performed premiers with ensembles like Ensemble Linea, Circuit Training and Schallfeld, in festivals like Ultraschall Berlin/DE, Maerz Music/DE, Randspiele/DE, Musica Nova/FI, Musica/FR, New Adits/AT, Ultima/NY, Kaleidophon/AT, newadits/AT, Tour de Babel/FR, Sound Live Tokyo/JA, GMEA/FR, Tectonics/GR, etc.
