Dimos Goudaroulis

Dimos Goundaroulis was born in 1970 in Larissa and grew up in Thessaloniki. He studied cello and graduated from the New Conservatory of Thessaloniki.

In 1988 he settled in Paris where he continued his studies at the Paris Conservatoire with Philippe Muller and Reine Flachot. There, he began playing jazz and improvisational music and collaborated with famous musicians such as Lee Konitz, Jackie McLean, Max Roach, Horace Parlan, Stéphane Grappelli, Hermeto Pascoal, Egberto Gismonti and Paul McCandless.

In 1996 he moved to Brazil. Since then, he devoted himself to the historical interpretation of early music, studying and exploring the repertoire for baroque and classical cello. He was for a decade Professor of Cello at the State University of Sao Paulo - UNICAMP. In 2003 he won in Brazil the prestigious Carlos Gomes Award as the best soloist of the year, while in 2008 his recording of the Suites for solo cello by J.S. Bach received the "Bravo" Culture Award (Prêmio Bravo de Cultura) for the best classical music CD of the year.
