George Spanos
George Spanos was born in Athens in 1979. He started taking piano lessons at the age of eight, continuing at the age of fourteen with his studies of modern drums and percussion. He has studied with Michael Carvin, Victor Jones and has attended seminars and master classes with Antonio Sanchez, Gary Burton, Horacio "El Negro" Hernández and Francisco Mela.
In 2013 he moved to New York and since then he had the opportunity to collaborate with the likes of John Zorn, Marc Ribot, Ikue Mori, Leo Genovese, Daniel Carter, Erik Friedlander, Steve Swell and Miles Griffith, performing at venues such as The Stone in East Village. He has toured in Europe, United States, and Canada in prominent jazz festivals and concerts.
His debut “Present: Jungle of Illusions”, an album co-led by him and Yiannis Kassetas, was released in 2011. Since moving to New York he continued recording albums as a leader and co-leader.
