Eleanna Pitsikaki

Eleanna Pitsikaki is a virtuoso qanun player, composer, researcher and lecturer from Crete, with an international presence in the contemporary Intercultural and Jazz music scene. She combines traditional influences from Asia Minor, the Balkans and the Byzantine tradition with contemporary Western forms.

She has performed in important venues such as the Herodion, the Elbphilharmonie (Hamburg) and the Sharq Taronalari festival (Uzbekistan). She was a core member of the Bridges Kammerorchester (2017–2024) and since 2023 has been a member of the innovative Trickster Orchester.

In 2024 she recorded with Trickster for ECM Records. She has received awards such as the German Record Critics' Award (2022, 2020), the Power of the Arts Award (2019), and the Frankfurt Integration and Diversity Award (2021).

She teaches at the University of Mainz (Hochschule für Musik Mainz) and has been a lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. She participates in a research program at the University of Cologne and is working on a doctoral thesis on intercultural music in society, as well as receiving a scholarship from the music academy of the German State Philharmonic Orchestra Rhineland-Palatinate on the topic of intercultural music.

She has collaborated with artists such as Ross Daly, Yasmin Levy, Socrates Sinopoulos and Oumeima el Khalil, and has created two bands, EPI Music and the Balkan Fuego Trio.

She studied World Music with a specialization in qanun at the Pop Akademie Mannheim and completed her postgraduate studies at the Cologne University of Music in Jazz Improvisation.

Her first album Àroma was released in 2025.
