Dimitris Mikelis was born in Athens. He graduated from the Pallini Music School. He studied piano at Berklee College of Music and received a Jazz Performance Master at William Paterson University. Among his teachers were George Kontrafouris and Armen Donelian. He also studied oud with Simon Shaheen.

He has performed at many festivals (Biennale, Youth, Annoual Festival, Brooklyn Maqam Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, etc.) and has toured with Socratis Malamas, Alkinoos Ioannidis, Savina Yannatou and many more.
In 2009 he moved to Ramalla in Palestine, where he taught oud and piano at Al Kamandjati Association and in he formed Ramallah Jazz Quartet in 2015.

His first personal album “Oudopia” was released in 2018.
