Maria Markesini was born in Kefallonia island and started piano lessons at the age of five. In 1988 she continued her studies at the Music Academy of Rotterdam and graduated with a diploma of piano soloist in 1993. In 1994 she continued with a master at Royal Academy of Brussels.

A hand injury became the reason for her to start singing. Returning at the Music Academy of Rotterdam, she studied jazz vocals and since 2004 she performed both as a piano soloist and as a jazz vocalist.

She has collaborated with many famous musicians and has performed many times at venues and TV show.

Her debut album "Maria Markesini – The Mimis Plessas’ songbook", a tribute to Mimis Plessas' music, was released in 2007.
