Thimios Atzakas
Thimios Atzakas was born in Thessaloniki in 1971. He studied classical guitar with Kostas Kotsiolis, Hubert Käppel and Carlo Marchione and also oud as well as tropical music with Ziad Radjab, Βehnam Manadjedi και Ross Daly. He has graduated from the conservatory Neo Odeio of Thessaloniki, from the Music Acedemie of Cologne, the University of Music and Theatre of Leipzig (Germany) and in addition he has obtained a doctor of philosophy (phd) from the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication of the University of the Aegean.
Until 1996 he was awarded in four international music competitions and has performed in many guitar recitals. From 1997 until 2004 he lived in Germany. He has participated in many international festivals, and has curated or taken part in more than 500 music concerts. Also, he has appeared as a soloist or as a member of music ensmebles at festivals and projects in Greece and abroad whereas he has recorderd and filmed for the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation, National as well as for the WDR, Deutsche Welle, MDR, Arte and BBC.
He has performed and recorded with many well-known musicians: Βijan Chemirani, Madjid Bekkas, Εfrén López, Hayden Chisholm, Kemal Dinc, Taner Akyol, SoKratis Sinopoulos, Antonis Anissegos, Michalis Siganidis, Kostas Theodorou, Sokratis Malamas, Thanasis Papakonstantinou and many more.
At the same time he has created various groups such as Armos Ensemble, Tropos Quartett Berlin and with Antonis Anissegos the group ω-ΣΩΜΑ. Since 2010 he performs as a constant member of the early music ensemble Ex Silentio (with the artistic guidance of Dimitris Kountouras).
He is an assistant professor at the Department of Music Science & Art of the University of Macedonia. Since 2006 he has undertaken the cultural/educational organization of the international music community "Music village" that is being held every summer in Pelion and of the cultural forum "to avgo", in Thessaloniki.
