Dimitris Angelakis
Dimitris Angelakis was born in 1983, in Thessaloniki. He has studied music (percussion, music theory) and has a degree in Musicology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. After graduating from the university he moved to Philadelphia (USA), to master his studies at jazz vibraphone with Toni Miceli at the University of the Arts, under a Fullbright scholarship. At the same time he took lessons from Christos Rafalides, Kenny Werner, Ed Saindon and other great musicians.
Dimitris Angelakis has presented his work in Europe (Greece, Spain, Holland, England, Ukraine) as well as in the USA (Philadelphia, Dellaware). In Greece, he has played in very known festivals such as the Dimitria and also in cultural venues such as the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center and the Megaron the Athens Concert Hall. Moreover, he is very active in recording music at countries abroad, with University of the Arts Ensemble (USA), Marossa Jazz Project (Spain) and in Greece as well, with the Hardgroove Quartet, John Papatriantafilou ("Absence"), Dimitris Kalantzis and others.
He has also collaborated with known musicians of the Greek jazz scene: George Kontrafouris, Yiotis Samaras, Antonis Andreou, Takis Paterelis, Vasilis Xenopoulos and Dimitris Tsakas.
