Sami Amiris

Pianist Sami Amiris was born in Thessaloniki. He studied music with Panagiotis Moralis, he continued his studies at the Contemporary Conservatory of Thessaloniki and later, at the Anatolia College with William Gladd. He also studied jazz at London College of Music, classical piano with Dimitri Toufexis and composition with Athanasios Zervas and Thodoros Antoniou. Moreover, Sami Aramis has studied Mathematics at the University of Crete and at the University of Athens.

Very important role to his musical development have played the long-lasting association and friendship with the master drummer Zach Pinakoulakis as well as the brief encounter with pianist Mal Waldron. Along with the drummer Yiannis Stavropoulos and bassist Periklis Trivolis, he formed the piano trio Nukeleus and released the album "Masterpieces Revisited" in 2009. Also, he set up the duo Phos with the sax player Antonis Ladopoulos and together they have released two albums.

His playing style encompasses many influences ranging from classical music to jazz and traditional music of many countries. He has performed in many jazz festivals and venues in Greece as well as abroad, not to mention that he has shared the stage with great musicians such as Bobby Shew, Ralph Peterson Jr, Nils Lundgren, Rex Richardson, Markus Stockhausen, Arild Andersen, Chico Freeman and Ron McClure.

Since 2000 he plays the piano at the Big Band of the Municipality of Athens and in addition, he currently serves as its musical director.
