Vasilis Rakopoulos
Rakopoulos Vasilis was born in Athens Greece. In 1975 he got a degree in Electrical Engineering at National Technical University of Athens and also completed post graduate studies both at Dimokritos Nuclear Center and at NTU.
During his studies he was also working as a guitarist and arranger and performed with some of the best Greek composers (Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Hadjidakis, Nikos Mamagakis and more).
He also became an active member of the upcoming Greek jazz scene in Athens performing with artists such as Rudolf Dasek, Bela Lakatos and Johnny Lambizi and he also became the guitarist of the youth european jazz big band.
During the '80s he lived in Bern and worked as a session guitarist and trumpeter and studied at the Swiss Jazz School. He graduated in 1986 with a jazz guitar diploma. He studied counterpoint and fugue with M. Gutesha, as well as arranging with Axel Jungblood. Additionally he studied paedagogics at the Bern Unicersity.
Relocating in Greece he started recording his own compositions, that are full of multicultural influences.
His debut album "Roxani" was released in 1993.
He has performed his compositions and arrangements at many venues in Greece and abroad and has collaborated with artists such as Egberto Gismonti, Aziza Mustafa Zadeh and the Bulgarian Voices.
