Nikos Paraoulakis was born in Crete in 1977. In 1995 he settled in Athens to study music. He graduated in Advanced Theory (harmony, counterpoint) studying with Panagiotis Adam, Joseph Papadatos and Vassilis Foster. He studied classical guitar with Thanasis Koumenteris and jazz guitar with Yiotis Samaras.

Since 2000 he turned his interest more to the Eastern and Greek music tradition. He studied ney with Ömer Erdoğdular and Harris Lambrakis.

He has collaborated with many important Greek and foreign composers, such as Socrates Malamas, Alkinoos Ioannidis, Haig Yazidjian, etc.

In 2005-2006 he taught new at the TEI of Epirus in Arta.

His first album entitled "Apo to phos sto skotadi" was released in 2014.
