Athanasopoulos Thanos was born in Thessaloniki in 1975. Since 2001 he lives in Holland. He studied at a graduate and post graduate level at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague from where he obtained a degree in music and a master's degree in jazz saxophone.

He teaches saxophone at the American School of the Hague as well as at the Dordtse music school. He also gives music seminars in Spain, Greece, France and Holland.

Along with the Spanish guitarist Marcos Pin they formed the Athanasopoulos/Pin Jazz Quartet. Their first album "Knock Before" was released in 2009 whereas their latest "About Time" was released on November 2021.

Athanasopoulos Thanos is also a writer and his first novel with short stories was released in 2018.
