Petros Klampanis

bass

Petros Klampanis was born in Zakynthos island in 1981. He began his double bass performance studies at Amsterdam Conservatory and in 2008 he completed his formal studies at the Aaron Copland School of Music in New York.

Since his relocation to New York City, he has performed with several internationally renowned jazz musicians as Greg Osby, Jean-Michel Pilc, Ari Hoenig, Snarky Puppy, Shai Maestro, Gilad Hekselman, and Antonio Sanchez, in famous venues such as the Carnegie Hall, the Blue Note Jazz Club, the Lincoln Center in New York and the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. In addition, he has performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival, the Palatia Jazz Festival, the JazzAhead Festival and the XJazz Festival in Germany, also in the Onassis Foundation Performing Centre of NYC, whereas in his country of origin, Greece, Klampanis has performed at the Megaron Mousikis Athinon, the Megaron Mousikis Thessalonikis, and Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre.

Klampanis' debut album "Contextual" was released by Greg Osby's Inner Circle Music while his second album "Minor Dispute", was selected as one of the best jazz records in 2015 by NPR (National Public Radio USA). "Chroma", the third album of Klampanis was released by Motema records and "Irrationalities", his fourth album as a leader, came out by Enja/Yellowbird, featuring the musicians Kristjan Randalu and Bodek Janke, his long time collaborators.

His passion for new media, social media and visual arts, led him to the creation of the independent YouTube music video project Rooftop Stories, a combination of solo bass and electronic music elements, covering his favorite songs from jazz standards to indie as well as Greek folk music.

His musical approach incorporates elements from multiple genres, ranging from Mediterranean and Balkan folk music to classical music and to pop music.
