Giorgos Moutafis was born in Orestiada in 1979. He started studying music very early (piano, music theory, wind instruments, choir).

He studied jazz piano at Art School Yiorgos Fakanas with Makis Tsagalidis, as well as modern music theory, counterpoint, composition and music technology.

He has performed with many bands (Athens Lounge Orchestra, Liquid Streets, Cahorn Keys, The Funky Soulmates and more) in concerts, theatrical performances and festivals, playing piano, hammond, flugelhorn and trombone. He has also performed in many countries (USA, Germany, France, Holland, Poland) with different groups.

He is a founding member of the Groove Elation Project, a Nu jazz oriented group with original compositions. The group's debut album ''Between Realities'', recorded live at the studio with an audience was released in 2015.

He also composes for his band, the Giorgos Moutafis Project.
