Nestor Vassilakis

Nestor Vassilakis was born in Athens in 2000. A graduate from the music high school of Pallini he has been an active student, playing with the jazz ensembles, orchestras and choirs.

Since 2016 he has performed at numerous jazz clubs, concert halls and festivals, in Greece and internationally. He has attended workshops and has played with experienced teachers and legend players like David Liebman, Gilad Atzmon, Andy Sheppard, Craig Bailey.

He participated and played original compositions at “Jazz Democracy” forum at the United Nations in New York for International Jazz Day April 30th 2018, along with giants of jazz like Jeff “Tain” Watts, David Liebman, Benito Gonzales, Essiet Okon Essiet, Sylvia Cuenca, Craig Bailey.

He has performed at Rhodes & South Aegean International Jazz Festival and sister festival Bodrum Jazz Festival, and has also been co-leader on the project “Father & Son” with Dimitri Vassilakis Athens Quartet, contributing original compositions, presented at Athens jazz venues such as Zoo, Afrikana, Gazarte and the Half Note.

For his participation at Jazzy Colors Festival in Paris, November 21st 2019, he contributed originals and he performed on tenor sax and laptop for the interaction with jazz and artificial intelligence presentation. He has also played for theatre productions and for poetry and jazz tributes namely at Cartel Theatre and “Poems & Crimes” art bar in Athens.

Since 2022 he studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama at the BMus Hons jazz course on tenor saxophone and he is a recipient of Athina Scholarship for the full duration of his course.
