Michalis Tsiftsis graduated the Ionian University where he studied jazz guitar. During his studies he became a member of the Athens jazz scene. Then he moved to New York to continue his studies at the Manhattan School of Music, while teaching at the Wheels School.

He was a member of the George Kontrafouris' Baby Trio, with which he performed at festivals in Greece and abroad. He also collaborated among others with Dimitris Tsakas, Takis Paterelis, Dimitris Papadopoulos, Yiannis Papadopoulos and Billy Pod.

In 2017 he formed the group Chief-tet, with a repertoir consisting of it's leaders original compositions. He also formed a trio with Kimon Karoutzos and Panagiotis Kostopoulos, they recorded their original compositions and performed at various venues. Additionally he is a member of the Billy Pod's group.
