Alexis Makatselos
Alexis Makatselos was born in Ptolemaida in 1989. He started drums lessons at the age of 16 with teacher Fotis Vakouftsis and in 2006 he started studying with Kostas Pagonidis. From 2007 to 2011 he studied at the jazz department of the Contemporary Conservatory in Thessaloniki and began performing with various groups. In 2012 he was accepted to the Utrecht Conservatory in the Netherlands and studied with musicians such as John Riley, Ari Hoenig, Kenny Werner, Peter Bernstein, Shai Maestro, Mark Guiliana and many more.
In 2013, he created the Groov-a-thon and in 2016 the Jazz Jam Session at Tilt.
Since 2017, after graduating from the Utrecht Conservatory, he lives in Thessaloniki and is involved with the Naima Drumhouse, a project aiming to highlight and connect the city of Thessaloniki with European Music Universities.
