Dimitris Kollias
His first contact with music began in 1981, learning and then playing the clarinet at the Lavrio Philharmonic and studied for a short time at the National Conservatory with Th. Paraskevopoulos.
In 1990 and for 4 years he was introduced to the art of Jazz and improvisation with teacher David Lynch, and at the same time studied at the Conservatory of Yiorgos Fakanas (jazz theory - harmony and orchestration) and specialist in Harmony at the Conservatory Fthogosimo. Also for a year he attended private lessons with the flutist - saxophonist Joe Tornabene.
During the '90s he participated in various jazz groups of which the main one was Money Jungle (Serafeim Bellos, Dimitris Korontzis, George Vassiliou) and at the same time he was a member of the Latin Group Sipan and Pyros Ether.
At the beginning of 2000 he was a member - for 3 years - in the group of Phoebus Delivorias, and in the same period "1999" after examinations - audition, he is a member of the BIG BAND of the Municipality of Athens in 1st tenor and today continues like 1st alto - leader.
In 2007 he started classical saxophone lessons with Thanasis Zervas and in 2011 he finished his classical saxophone diploma with Dionysios Rousos, at the Filippos Nakas Conservatory.
He has collaborated/performed with Bobby Few, Nikos Kapilidis (Jazz Utopia), Fenia Papadodima, Tito Puente Jr. (Gazarte), DKQ (Dimitris Kakavoulis Quartet), Svobotnik (Panos Yiotis), Sami Amiris (piano), and his group HALF DIM QUARTET with Dimitris Kakavoulis (keyboards), Vassilis Papastamopoulos (bass) and Leandros Fratnik (drums).
