Yiannis Kassetas
Sax player Yiannis Kassetas was born in Athens in 1979. He studied saxophone and classical piano at the Music High School of Pallini, but it was at the Conservatory of Nakas with professor Dimitri Vassilakis that he seriously started playing jazz. At the age of 15 he took his first scholarship for the student program of the famous Berklee College of Music of Music and another one when he was 18. He graduated at 21 with a diploma with honors in saxophone, but he also excelled in courses of Composition, arranging and counterpoint.
"The Truth about the Aliens Invasion in Egypt", his first album as a leader was released in 2007. Since then, his recordings include his own compositions, featuring some internationally acclaimed musicians such as Clarence Penn, Miles Griffith, Craig Handy and Ulysses Owens Jr.
He has collaborated with many artists from the local and international scene and has participated in many festivals in Greece and abroad.He has also worked as a session musician with many bands, in many theatrical musicals but also jazz, rock, latin, pop groups.
