Theo Kapilidis
Theo Kapilidis was born in Xanthi in 1960 and grew up in a musical family Xanthi, 1960). During his childhood he spent much time at the record store of his father and he came into contact with jazz early on. At the age of twelve, he was playing the piano and devoted himself mainly to the guitar. He studied at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern. After graduating he gave countless jazz concerts and participated in a variety of other projects.
In 1985 he returned to Thessaloniki, where he worked as a studio musician and as a teacher at the Synchronous Conservatory of Thessaloniki. His first recording was made with the Electric Jazz Trio (with Nikos Kapilidis and Yiotis Kiourtsoglou) in 1990.
Since his return to Switzerland in 1991 he has worked with many famous jazz musicians, such as John Voirol, Heiri Känzig and Rätus Flisch. He also played in various bands together with renowned artists such as Manny Boyd, Danny Hαyes, Keith Copeland, Johnny Vidacovich, Will Vinson, Glenn Zaleski, Rick Rosato and Colin Stranahan.
His debut album as a leader "Blue Jazz Expression" was released in 1998. He currently teaches at the Zurich University of the Arts.
