Sokratis Votskos
Sokraris Votskos was born in Pella, Edessa in 1989. At age 12, he began studying clarinet and music theory. In 2007 he started attending classes in the Department of Music Science & Art of the University of Macedonia. After studying clarinet, soprano, and baritone saxophones -as well as the Armenian duduk on his own- and composition, he graduated in September of 2013.
He has played in numerous concerts and gigs with classical and jazz orchestras, big bands, pop groups, etc and has spent three years with the late Bulgarian pianist Milcho Leviev. In 2013, Votskos and Harris P. formed Kolida Babo and started recording live sessions, resulting in the self-titled album in 2019.
He has also founded the Sokratis Votskos Quartet, with musicians interested in linking the ancient and the contemporary in music compositions. The group worked together, studying Greek and Balkan folk sources, numerous jazz idioms, and the classical maqams of the near East.
In 2019 the group released "Sketching the Unknown".
