Sokratis Sinopoulos
Sokratis Sinopoulos was born in Athens. He studied classical guitar and took lessons in Byzantine music and folk song at I. Tsiamoulis’ school, where he sang with the school children’s choir. In 1988 he started studying lyre and lute with Ross Daly and a year later he joined his group “Labyrinthos”.
During the last twenty years he has collaborated with composers, musicians and singers from Greece and abroad in various genres, from folk music to jazz, participating in countless concerts and recordings all around the world. In 1999 he was honored with the Melina Merkouri national award for young artists.
In 2011 he created Sokratis Sinopoulos Quartet. The debut album of the quartet "Eight Winds" for ECM records was released in 2015.
Sokratis Sinopoulos is an assistant professor at the Department of Music Science & Art in the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki.
