Vassilis Philippou
After studying piano and composition at the Royal Holloway University of London, Vassilis Filippou continued with postgraduate studies at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London and the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague. He completed two research studies on the topics of the relationship between sound and space and Mediterranean music as an influence on classical composition.
He has presented his compositions in the UK, Holland, Spain, America, Cyprus and Greece, as well as at festivals such as the Cheltenham and Aldeburgh festivals, Mediterranean Bodies (GR), Holland and Gaudeamus festivals as well as radio broadcasts by BBC Radio 3, ORF Radio and RIK.
His compositions are influenced by European classical music, as well as the traditions of the eastern Mediterranean and express his artistic concerns as they are formed by his interaction with man and the environment.
After his return to Cyprus, in addition to teaching, he collaborates with artists in the field of theater, cinema and dance.
In 2021 he released his first personal album entitled "The Sun of Avki" and in 2022 his second album entitled "Colourful Emptiness".
