The 12-member orchestra was formed in 2024 at the initiative of Nikos Sidirokastritis, in honor of Giorgos Barakos, an important figure not only in jazz but also in music more broadly in Greece. Its members include some of the finest improvisers on the Greek jazz scene, while the orchestra’s sound engineer, George Karyotis, is considered its thirteenth member.

The orchestra’s debut album, titled Vol. I, was released in 2026.
