Athina Kontou is a Greek-German bass player and improvising musician based in Cologne, Germany.

She studied musicology and jazz double bass in Mainz, Athens, Weimar and Leipzig.

With her band Mother she combines greek music tradition with contemporary jazz sounds. Her working bands are Autochrom, Été Large and Trieders Holz. She cares about the environmental crisis and tries to contribute to sustainable practices in the music world.

Her debut album with Mother entitled “Tzivaeri” was released in 2022.
