Melina Karakosta, daughter of the writer George Sari, was born in Paris in 1959. She studied chinese and italian literature, while also studying double bass and composition. Since 1985 she started performing and recording jazz and ethnic music.

She also taught music to children using innovative teaching methods. She directed music shows with children and created experimental workshops for expression through music and theatre.

She translated more than two hundred books.

She died in 2007, during a rehearsal at Athens Megaron Concert Hall.
