Christos Gotsinas
Christos Gotsinas was born in Athens. He started playing drums professionally when he was thirteen years old. He was a founding member of bands in the funk, rock, R&B and jazz scene of the 70’s. He participated in the first Praxis Jazz in 1980.
He lived in Paris, where he studied at the Kenny Clark / Dante Agostini’s School and took part in, among others, the French Contemporary Music Theaters “Moise” and “Et Nos Amours – Guillaume Appollinaire”.
He lived and worked for a decade in New York, studying jazz at the Drummers' Collective, with masters of the art, such as Louis Bellson, Jimmy Cobb, Horacee Arnold, Mike Clark, a.o. taking part in many jazz and funk projects, collaborating and in some cases as a producer, with musicians such as Chip Jackson, Ronnie Drayton, Delmar Brown, Steve Thornton, Uptown Horns and more.
He participated in the University of the Streets sessions (Tommy Turrentine, C-Sharp, Ari Roland) and was a member of the Brazilian group Empire Loisaida of Nana Vasconcelos, Cyro Baptista.
He has studied Afro-Caribbean music with Frank Mallabe and Horacio (el Negro) Hernadez in New York and in Cuba with Amaldito Valdez. As a session drummer he has participated in a series of European and
World Tours and extensive discography by many Greek and foreign artists in many different formations, among which Berliner Instrumentalisten, Volos Symphony Orchestra and The Boston Pops.
He participates as Guest Tutor in Composition and Contemporary Music Theater courses at the Department of Music Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
He has released the albums: "In the Desert Country" and "40:45".
He lives in Athens and records a series of new personal projects at the Recording Center of Megaron Athens Concert Hall.
